Learning Communities

Incoming freshman students may apply for the Food Science and Human Nutrition Learning Community. The learning community provides an opportunity for first year students to:

  • meet other students with similar career interests,
  • take a few common courses together,
  • interact with upper-level peer mentors and faculty members, and
  • participate in service learning projects.

There is an optional living-learning component for students choosing to live in Eaton Hall on the same floor as other students interested in nutrition and dietetics. Incoming freshman can select the living option when indicating residence hall housing preferences. All incoming freshman students (regardless of housing preference), are invited to sign up for the learning community and register for common courses during June orientation sessions.

Student Organizations

The Nutrition Club provides an opportunity for dietetic students to network with other students and professionals. Club meetings are held monthly for students to sign up for nutrition and dietetics-related volunteer experiences, hear about career opportunities from guest speakers, and plan club activities. All interested students are encouraged to attend an upcoming meeting, visit with the current members and officers, and join the club!

The ISU Student Dietetic Association provides an opportunity for dietetic students to learn more about current issues in nutrition and become more actively involved within the professional association for dietitians: American Dietetic Association. The club's primary purpose is to provide members with current information on the profession of dietetics and advancements in the field. Members are encouraged to attend state and national professional meetings in addition to on-campus meetings.

Professional Associations/Organizations

Students in the dietetics program are encouraged to become student members of professional associations/organizations and network with professionals within the career field. Students may choose to become members of the following:
